Your Golf Technique And Technology
By Kerry Graylor
Technology has revolutionized golf technique along with everything else in our lives. There are so many advances in basic golf equipment that we take for granted today, that were completely unimaginable to the golfers of one hundred years ago. Then on top of that there are gadgets and accessories that they could not have dreamed of. Imagine their astonishment if they had seen someone buzzing around a golf course in a golf cart!
The biggest effect of technological progress on the golfing world has to be in the manufacture of golf clubs themselves. Modern clubs can offer much more variety to the individual golfer. The use of graphite is relatively recent and has allowed for huge developments in the construction of clubs. Graphite or part-graphite clubs are lighter and more flexible, which for most people allows for a stronger and more directed swing.
The shape of the head of golf clubs has also undergone some major changes in recent years with manufacturers experimenting and producing a level of precision that golfers demand. Some clubs are specifically designed for beginners, and others require a more accurate shot from an experienced golfer. It is all in the curve and shape of the head.
Technology also has a great deal to offer in the practice arena. You can have your swing, your drive, your chip and your put measured and analyzed to produce very targeted advice on how you can improve your game. It is very difficult to achieve the perfect swing and also hard to see one's own mistakes. This is where the advice of your local golf course professional has traditionally been sought, but these days you can instead turn to a technological analysis.
You have probably also seen a lot of hi tech gadgets in your local golf course shop as well as in an online golf store. There are a lot of different types of mini computer or calculator that you can carry around the course with you to record scores for up to 4 players in a match, or to keep track of your own statistics over a number of games.
You can feed in the information and then analyze it later to see where you are playing well and where there is room for improvement. This can be particularly useful for improving your golf technique if you are often times playing over the same course.
