Best Place To Retire is E. Las Vegas
By
If you're thinking of relocating for retirement, you might want to consider E. Las Vegas, NV as one of the best cities for retirement. Every major news media and magazine has it's own listing of the top 10 to top 50 places to retire and they all tout the benefits of these locations as they compare the pro's and con's of each one.
The problem with most of them is the entry fee. By that, I mean the price of homes or condos in the area. Maybe you have the means to lay out $400,000 to a half million dollars or more on a one bedroom condo, but that's not where I want to spend the bulk of my retirement nest egg.
E. Las Vegas is close to everything you could ever want for nightlife, recreation and entertainment but yet is far enough from the strip and downtown to have a feel all it's own.
The Silver Bowl Sports Complex and the Desert Wetlands Park are at the bottom edge of E Las Vegas, while Lake Mead National Park is adjacent. Horseman's Park is located right in the middle of the area, with equestrian events scheduled year round.
A home, in a 55 community, will cost from $230,000 to $240,000 but a condo nearer the freeway will be less than $200,000, as of the end of 2007. Much more in keeping with what I have in mind for retirement. The median age of the area is a little over 34 years so you won't feel as though you've entered the twilight zone into an old folks city, even if you opt for a retirement community.
There is less crime in the area than there is in the larger city itself. You'd probably want a car of your own to get to and from the areas that don't offer public transportation but within the Las Vegas area itself there is plenty of public transportation available.
No matter where you want to go, there will be a casino nearby with buses running almost continuously. Grab a bus to the casino nearest to your destination and walk the short distance, if necessary. In E. Las Vegas, you'll find a mix of city/desert community.
The dry desert air is great for those suffering from any respiratory problems and there are many sight seeing trips to be had within a one to three hour drive.
