7 Reasons To Start Planning For Early Retirement Now

By

Early retirement is often referred to as the dream of the working classes, and with good reason. We all work extremely hard, and the stresses and strains of modern day life soon take their toll as we head into our fifties. More and more people are looking forward to getting out of the rat race and enjoying the time we have left. Early retirement planning can facilitate all of the above, but only if it carried out correctly.

There are several reasons why you should plan for your retirement if you are planning to retire early, and all of them are extremely important. If you are planning an early retirement then be sure to read the following seven reasons before you start putting plans in place!

  1. Most pension plans do not pay out until you reach the statutory age of retirement, which my indeed leave you financially short if you do not plan ahead. However, the earlier you start to put money aside for retirement, the more you will have in savings and investments
  2. The age of retirement looks set to rise again in the future. Depending on the country you live in, the age of retirement may be higher or lower, but the general rule is 65 at the moment. However, this looks set to go up in the near future, which may mean you have to work into your seventies unless you plan ahead now.
  3. Take advantage of preferential rates. Individuals that are in their forties and fifties at the moment can take advantage of preferential savings and investment rates that are offered by banks in order to encourage retirement savings. Whilst this is the fashion at the moment, it may not be soon so take advantage of it now!
  4. Early retirement planning can allow you to enjoy life. If you do plan to move then the earlier you start looking for a new house or plan your emigration then the smoother it will go when the time comes.
  5. The earlier you have a retirement plan set in stone, the easier it is to stick to it. The later you leave it to plan, the more likely it may be to go wrong or be subject to a shortfall so you should begin planning now!
  6. You can plan spending cutbacks in order to invest more money between now and when you retire. If you do not budget from this moment then the likelihood is that you will waste money on frivolous items when it could be put to better use.
  7. Time stands still for no man. If you do not proactively plan your early retirement in advance then nobody will do it for you so start today.

In short, early retirement planning is essential if you do want to spend the later years of life enjoying yourself instead of getting more and more stressed going to work every day to a job that you resent! If you do not plan and provide for early retirement yourself then you will most likely have to retire when your benefits begin to pay out, by which time all the things that you dream of now may have to remain just that, a dream.
