There are many advantages of online dating for women when you compare with the old, pre-internet dating services. Until the mid 1990s there were no dating services online. Subscribing to a dating service meant that either you would write letters through an agency back and forward until you felt comfortable giving out your personal address or telephone number, or you had to agree to your number being given out to anyone who was matched with you.
The explosive growth of internet dating sites shows how popular and how useful they have been. There are hundreds of thousands of people who use them as the main source of meeting new people and forming relationships. They are especially useful for people who do not have much opportunity to meet members of the opposite sex and those who are not likely to go to dance clubs and similar places where young people often meet each other. Therefore, they are ideal for single, divorced and widowed members of the baby boomer generation.
Anonymity is one of the major advantages of an online dating service, of course. You will never have to reveal your real name, personal address, phone number or even your email address to another member. Of course if you want to meet some of the men you will eventually want to give them at least a phone number, but you can wait until you are comfortable to do that with the individual man that you have been corresponding with.
You do not even have to post a photograph, although you will receive many more responses if you do. This is true even if you think you are not at all pretty. Some people do not post photos for fear that someone they know will be surfing the site and will recognize them. If that is a concern for you, instead of not posting a photo at all, it is better to look for a site that will allow you to hide your photo until you choose to reveal it to individual subscribers.
Online dating also gives you access to a much greater number of single people than you could ever hope to contact by replying to newspaper ads or using a telephone dating service. You can search through hundreds or thousands of profiles and you will probably be amazed at how many there are in your area.
You may choose to contact just one or two men at first, you may contact many, or you may prefer to wait for them to contact you, but if you observe the simple safety rules I am sure you will soon be a huge fan of online dating for women.
