Sleep Disorders, Your Worst Enemy
By
Poor sleep, caused by sleep disorders, isn't just a natural part of aging that you can afford to ignore. Your very health and your life, itself, are at risk. If you don't believe it or you think I'm exaggerating, just pay attention to what I'm about to tell you. You owe it to yourself and those who love you to be informed so you don't become a statistic.
There are more than a hundred identified sleep disorders and who knows how many others that haven't been identified as of yet. As you age, you tend to be more susceptible to some kind of sleep related disorder or another and you need to take immediate action once you realize that you suffer from one or more of them.
There are three main categories that these ailments fall into. You either aren't getting enough sleep, your sleep is disturbed in some way or you are getting too much sleep. Some of the common symptoms of a lack of good sleep are:
- Excessive yawning and a feeling of tiredness during the day
- Lack of the ability to concentrate
- A decrease in your productivity on the job and elsewhere
- Loss of some memory function
- Immune system not working properly
- Irritability
One of the common threads of all the disorders that affect your sleep is a lack of good, quality sleep itself. Anything that affects you in a bad way when you sleep is detrimental to your overall heath.
For instance, did you realize that a link has been made between sleep apnea and diabetes, heat disease and other health issues? The probable cause of this is the lack of oxygen coming into your system because of the stopped breathing. Over a period of years this will kill you by itself.
Even though sleep apnea is so serious, most people don't take it seriously. You should seek immediate medical help is you think you suffer from this malady.
Insomnia is another killer. If you've ever had trouble sleeping, you know that it affects your ability to think clearly and this can lead to auto accidents, work related accidents and depression. Depression, if allowed to become deep enough can lead to suicide. This list could go on and on but we can't cover every problem you might encounter when trying to get your optimum night's sleep.
The bottom line of any sleep problem is diagnosing it, treating it and returning to restful sleep so your immune system can operate at it's peak to ward off the other potential health hazards that poor sleep produces.
