Retirement Income Shrinking? Consider A Home Based Business

By

With retirement income shrinking, many retirees these days are considering a home based business. Network marketing or MLM (multi level marketing) opportunities have some great advantages including broadening your circle of social contacts and flexibility in the working hours. If your pre-retirement work was in any kind of sales business you will have a lot of the knowledge that you need. If not, hey, it could be time to expand your skills!

But do not rush into the first business opportunity that you see. Don't worry, there will be plenty more. And you could be making a big mistake if you do not take all of these points into consideration:

  1. Make sure that you are not getting into a pyramid scheme. These are illegal in most countries. A pyramid scheme is where there is no real product or service, you are only paying for your place in the network or matrix. A legitimate company may have a matrix, but it will also have a product or service that is the main thing that you are paying for.
  2. If they say you will make a lot of money without doing any work, it's either a pyramid scheme or it's not true. In a legitimate company you may make some money from the work done by the distributors that you sponsor, or even those sponsored by people above you, but you have to do some work to sponsor and support some of your downline.
  3. Most people who join network marketing companies leave in the first 90 days without having sponsored anybody. Don't let that be you. Choose your company carefully and be sure this is something you want to do before you start to put in your time and money.
  4. Research the company. How long has it been running? If it is just starting, it is more of a risk, but you could be in a very good position if it turns out well. Check out the directors and whether their previous companies have been successful.
  5. Be suspicious of 'miracle cure' type products. Remember a certain percentage of people get well from most illnesses with regular treatment. Maybe it wasn't the 'miracle product' that cured them.
  6. You will be more successful selling the product if you are truly convinced of its benefits. So ask if you can try it before you commit. If it is not something you would use yourself, maybe it is not something you should be selling.
  7. The company will almost always show you testimonials from people who are earning a lot of money with them. Remember those people have probably been around for a while. Sure, you can get there, but it may take you a few years and you may need some training. Does the company offer the right kind of training for you?
  8. Never pay any money or sign any paperwork at the first meeting, even if they say you can get a refund. You need time to do your research and talk to people you trust about your decision. Do not commit until you are sure this is the right opportunity for you.

Remember that even when you find the right opportunity, you will have to invest some time and money into your new business. With your retirement income shrinking, you want to be sure of getting that investment back as soon as you can.
