Part Time Business : Interesting Means Successful

By

I'm all in favor of a part time business for retirees. However, if it never makes much money, but keeps you alert to handle each new challenge, it is a success. After all if you took up golf, you wouldn't even be able to break even, never mind making a small profit!

Still, it would be nice to make a profit...wouldn't it? What would I do with it? Probably find something else to try. A challenge mastered is boring. I would probably travel the world with my trusty laptop computer to keep me in contact with my business. What's that? There are no trusty laptop computers available? I wouldn't know. I haven't bought one yet.

I don't know if this qualifies as a business, but there is no risk involved. Perhaps that means that it isn't a business. You can do freelance work for people who might be on the other side of the world. Are you good at crochet, or computer programming, or jewelry, or... the list goes on. If you know where to look you can find people who will pay for your skills, working part-time at home.

However, I think of a business as buying low and selling high. Just how low can you buy? Does free sound good? You might like to try your hand at recycling for money.

Perhaps you would prefer to be paid to take it away? Well, if you are fit and have a truck you can charge householders $50 to cart away furniture that is just taking up valuable space. Make it clear that you aren't in the job of carting away rubbish.

Sell your furniture to the used furniture shops. The first time you will wince at the low price that they are prepared to pay you for lovely furniture. But remember, they are in business too, buying low, selling high. You are doing just a little better than they are. You are buying for minus fifty dollars, and selling for a miserable pittance. You are onto a sure thing. They have to wait and hope that customers will come in and buy what you have sold them by the truckload without any salesmanship whatsoever.

Don't get caught up selling things on eBay. Think of it. If you get ten valuable items to sell, you have to write ten great bits of salesmanship. Then you have twenty items the next day and you don't have the energy to write twenty sales letters. The way to have a profitable business on ebay is to find one single item that everyone wants to buy.

You can even pay a copywriter to write your advert for ebay, because it is for only one item, not for dozens of items. You keep offering the same item day after day until demand drops off, then find one more item to offer in your part time business. It's not part time if you have to spend forty hours a week writing sales copy.
